Behind the Scenes: Why We’re Working With Deer Tallow
You may have seen a few behind-the-scenes glimpses and wondered what’s new in the workshop.
We’ve recently begun working with deer tallow as part of our ongoing research and development. This isn’t a product launch yet — our soaps are still curing and our skin formulations are still being refined before anything is released.
We chose to trial deer tallow very intentionally. From a formulator’s point of view, it’s naturally firmer and less greasy than many beef tallows, which gives a cleaner skin feel and excellent performance in barrier-style recipes.
We also render our tallow ourselves, so we can control the process, quality, and final texture. How a fat is rendered has a big impact on stability, scent, and how it behaves in finished products.
Our deer tallow is sourced locally from Kosciuszko Wild Venison, using free-ranging wild deer. This aligns with our values around responsible use, low waste, and traditional apothecary practice — making respectful use of what’s available locally and ensuring nothing goes to waste.
We’re taking our time with this — testing, tweaking, and making sure the final products meet our standards before they’re released. We’ll share more once everything is fully ready
