Simple Calendula Balm

Simple Calendula Balm - Alpine Apothecary

Recipe illustration; appearance may vary.

A two-ingredient balm that turns calendula-infused oil into an easy-to-carry solid preparation.

Ingredients

  • 45 g calendula-infused oil
  • 5 g candelilla wax
  • Clean, dry 50 g tin or jar

Method

  1. Place the infused oil and candelilla wax in a heatproof jug.
  2. Stand the jug in a shallow saucepan of gently simmering water.
  3. Stir until the wax has completely melted.
  4. Remove from the heat, carefully pour into the container and leave uncovered until fully set.
  5. Close, label and store away from heat and direct sunlight.
Good to know
For external use only. Patch test before use. If you prefer a softer balm, remelt and add a little more infused oil.

Beeswax option

For an approximately 50 g batch, try 42 g calendula-infused oil and 8 g beeswax in place of the 45 g oil and 5 g candelilla wax above. Use the same gentle melting method. Beeswax tends to create a more pliable, less brittle balm; candelilla is harder and normally requires a lower percentage. These are trial ratios, not exact equivalents. Test a small sample at your room temperature and adjust the oil-to-wax balance if needed.

For a softer beeswax balm, try 44 g infused oil with 6 g beeswax. Keep all equipment and containers dry. These are general external-use adult formulations, not tested baby balms.
